FALL FASHION TREND BREAKDOWN

Ahhh Fall. I don't know about you but I wait all year for the weather to cool down. I live for beautiful crisp mornings watching the leaves fall from my apartment window and the indescribable scent of the cool autumn breeze. Fall fashion happens to be my favorite as well. You can wear a sweater or layer on a coat without having to put on eight layers to keep out snow and wind chill. Every August I get the itch to start buying snuggly sweaters and boots in preparation for the Autumnal season. Here is my guide to 2020's Fall fashion forecast.

PREP-

Whilst I feel truly classic "preppy" never goes out of style, it isn't everyones cup of tea. However this 2020 season I have a feeling we will be seeing lots of tartan, argyle and plaid incorporated into this years silhouettes. Think loose but tailored clothing, oversized blazers, skirts of every length, High waisted styles and matching sets. "What would Blair Waldorf wear?" is a great place to start.

GRUNGE-

The 90's reboot isn't going anywhere soon and Fall is no exception. Again, plaid is applicable here, sheer layers, leather jackets, tights, mini skirts and combat boots. While none of these are particularly new or groundbreaking it is the color stories and silhouettes that will keep this style updated and fresh.

LEATHER-

Yes leather gets its own section. Full leather ensembles and two piece sets have been seen trickling down through luxury brands to the likes of Zara and H&M over the last year or so. If a full leather ensemble or suit is a little too daunting or "extra" for you, try it in a more traditional way through leather skirts and jackets or a bolder leather boot. Dresses are safe too! Some personal thoughts of mine are if you can find vintage, pre loved, or vegan pieces do! The environmental impact of leather is high as it is a by-product of the meat industry and I think I speak for many when I say we want to look cute and on trend while still being considerate of our planet.

MONOCHROME-

Single color stories are definitely something Ive been obsessing over this year and Fall fashion is no exception. There are two ways to get this look. 1. Classic monochrome, picking one color and keeping everything within that color range. 2. Color story, The key to successfully pulling these off is to stay within 1-2 shades of your base color and playing with texture! These looks take some confidence and a keen eye for colors and layering but they look SO CHIC!

NEUTRALS-

Que the Miranda Priestly meme! "Neutrals for Fall ... groundbreaking" Hear me out though. Grey and black will always be year round staples. However BROWN is having a comeback. I remember being obsessed with this cream shirt covered in brown hearts when I was in the 5th grade. That's the last time I ever felt fashionable in a chocolate brown color. Until now! brown is making a big comeback. It started a couple years ago with a resurgence of camel colored everything (That hasn't gone anywhere either) and has come full circle with 50 shades of brown and beige. My suggestion is a snuggly sweater paired with a creamy leather skirt or sprinkle it into your accessories.

VICTORIAN-

You read that right. I feel like corsets are everywhere right now. I blame the queen Zendaya for serving up the most stunning emerald green look at the Emmy Awards. Now you see them on everyone from Bella Hadid to influencers on the gram, and rightly so. Corsets can be flattering on every body type from my beautiful curvy girls to the petite ladies, there's a piece of this trend for everyone. Other aspects of victorian style are showing up as well. Ruffled colors and delicate french style laces are accenting designs at every price point.

VINTAGE-

This is not new news. Vintage has been making its comeback over the last few years as we become more conscious and ethical consumers. Everything old is new again. The shoulder pad T-shirts all over instagram are straight 80's influenced. Harry Styles epic suits and all the other beautiful wide leg pants and effortless blazers we're loving are a beautiful nod to the 60's and 70's.

COMFY-

With WFH still very much a reality for many. Fall 2020 will see more fashion leaning towards oversized and comfortable silhouettes. "slouchy, oversized and relaxed" tend to be the descriptive words for many pieces this season. I'm here for it. Comfort is of the upmost importance to me. If something is not comfortable I will not wear it and I know I'm not alone, So I for one am here for this cozy, comfy food baby hiding trend!
